1. General information
The objective of this subject is to provide students with the necessary knowledge and strategies to critically evaluate the main problems posed by the study of the Spanish lexicon. It is also intended that students reflect on the treatment of the Spanish lexicon in lexicographic sources and lexicological studies.

An advanced instrumental command of Spanish is required. It is necessary for non-native students to have at least a B2 level of Spanish
2. Learning results
1. Ability to identify and describe the linguistic origin of the Spanish lexicon and, in particular, its configuration and current trends.
2. Knowledge of the structure of the dictionary and its types; acquisition of the basics of lexicographic technique and understanding of the main problems associated with the practice of dictionary making.
3. Ability to recognize and describe the procedures of lexical creation in current Spanish.
4. Acquisition of the most relevant lexical analysis techniques.

3. Lexical creation and enrichment procedures
4. Lexicon and dictionaries. Notions of lexicography
5. Lexicon and grammar in current Spanish: variation, norms and style
6. New perspectives in lexical research
4. Academic activities
A combination of expository and participatory methodologies will be used. The faculty will present the most relevant theoretical aspects and will explain by means of practical exercises the main techniques of linguistic analysis.
1. Guided activities.
Participative face-to-face master classes (theoretical and practical) in the classroom. Presentation, discussion, practical exercises and clarification of doubts.
2. Supervised activities
Individual and group tutoring. Advice and help with any theoretical and practical aspect of the subject.

5. Assessment system
First call
A) Continuous assessment system
The following continuous evaluation system will be applied by the responsible teacher
- Evaluation instruments. Continuous assessment portfolio: 100%
a) Exercises: 20%. Carrying out short practical exercises in the classroom.
b) Activities: 80%. Completion of theoretical and practical tasks of various types: theoretical questionnaire, analysis of articles lexicographical, commentary on readings.
Both tests must be passed with a grade of 5 out of 10.
- Evaluation criteria: terminological rigor and conceptual mastery, critical reading of theoretical material, capacity for analysis and synthesis, correct use of oral and written language
B) Overall evaluation test (on the date set in the academic calendar)
- Final written exam consisting of a theoretical and a practical part (80%). In order to be averaged on the final grade, the minimum grade must be 4 (out of 10).
- Delivery of a written work on one of the topics that will be proposed in class or a portfolio of activities (20%). In order to be averaged into the final grade, the minimum grade must be 4 (out of 10).
Terminological rigor, expository clarity, capacity for analysis and synthesis, the application of relevant methods of analysis and the correct use of written language will be valued.
